Our adult program emphasizes three areas of focus:
Self-Defense: Our comprehensive curriculum covers such topics as blocking, striking, joint-manipulation, takedowns and ground-fighting -- all in a safe environment. To us, self-defense boils down to one idea: people don't want to get hurt. That's true both off and on the mat.
Physical Fitness: Our students improve their stamina, strength, and flexibility as a byproduct of self-defense practice. A skill-based activity, martial arts provides an enjoyable approach to fitness: rather than focusing on how many agonizing reps you have left with a dumbell, your mind is occupied with the strides you're making in your technique.
Fun: Adults tend to approach things like fitness and self-defense from a pragmatic point of view: "This is something I need to do" -- for a while. But face it: gyms are full in January and empty in March because if people aren't having fun, they're not going to stick to training, no matter how lofty their goals.
At Macomber Karate, we pride ourselves on the environment we've cultivated -- a good group of people, working on improving their lives in fundamental ways, and having a good time doing it. Our goal is to make training something you want to do.
